Louisiana Homes & Gardens Design Awards 2008: Room Design: Living Room, Home Office and Bedroom

Room Design – Living Room

Lawrence Menache, Maison Pompeii Antiques/Interiors

This space is part of a series of traditional rooms furnished with 18th-century furniture signed by ébénistes Criard, Carpentier, and Marchand. The Chinese rug unifies the antique hand-painted wallpapers in adjacent rooms. The portraits add ancestry while the Miro lithograph brings the room into the present. The secrétaire à abattant is illustrated in Constantino’s French Antiques, and the corresponding chair once belonged to prominent interior designer Eleanor Brown. The fabrics, colors, furniture placement, and appointments make this space enduring yet functional for entertaining intimate or large groups.

Room Design – Home Office

Echelon Interiors

This masculine home office was created for the man of the house who likes to have a space of his own where he can retreat and take care of business in a quiet and relaxed setting. Details such as the stag horn chandelier, the coffered wood ceiling, and the intricately carved desk emphasize the masculinity of the space and give warmth and visual weight to the room as a whole.

Room Design – Bedroom

CK & Kennedy

The Rosenblum Varner bedroom design includes a custom-built ultra suede headboard constructed using individually upholstered panels and bordered by a silver leaf frame. A quilted velvet bedspread is topped with mitered silk pillows accentuated by decorative covered buttons. The simple yet elegant window shades match the warm, rich Pratt and Lambert Kodiak Grey that was selected as the wall color. Faux finished bergères are upholstered in a luscious wide stripe silk that blends with the established palette, and the Oushak rug placed centrally within the room softens the look further and ties the elements together seamlessly. ✦
